GNOWANGERUP GOLF CLUB

The club house for first Gnowangerup Golf Club was built of weatherboards and contained ladies' and gentleman's dressing rooms, with a vestibule 16ft x 14ft and a kitchen. A verandah on one side facing the links. Located in Denny Street, on the property of James Quinn.

In the absence of the patron Mr. R. Formby, the president Mr. F. McKnight declared the season open in April/May 1939. Claude Cockram drove the first ball. The mixed foursones were played, Mrs. Cockram and R. Bluntish tied with Miss P. Davis and F. O. Gaze, with a net 78. The morning round was won by W. Wray, after a play-off with W. Cuneo and G. Rockett.

It was later relocated to its current position further out of town opposite what was the Aboriginal Mission.

Quinns property then became the Cow Paddock known as the Gnowangerup Common.

OPENING OF GNOWANGERUP GOLD CLUB       #

Women’s Golf: 10 July 1926
BROOMEHILL V. GNOWANGERUP
Prior to Gnowangerup having its on clubrooms built, a team of lady golfers journeyed from Gnowangerup to Broomehill on Sunday for their return match. The weather was rather dull, misty rain, raining most of the day, yet still real golf weather. The home team won by a fair margin, but the scores do not in any way indicate that the games were easily won, for they were in almost every case only decided by a stroke or two at the most. This, indeed, was a great credit to the visiting club, which is just in its infancy. The Broomehill ladies entertained the visitors at luncheon and afternoon tea at their club house.
